  Great Honeymoon Resort!

  Fantastic honeymoon! Loved every second. The service is unparalleled, food is delicious and beach is beautiful. We loved our Local Host, Zuleima. She went above and beyond to make sure our honeymoon was unforgettable. We will be back! Gracias UNICO!

  Unico is very nice for couples who want to enjoy a quality and quiet vacation.

  The location of Unico 20* 87* Hotel in Riviera Maya is far away from everything, however, the hotel is luxurious. The food is fresh and good quality. It's small and comfortable to walk around the resort. They offer the shuttle service from and to the airport. Butler service and 24 hour room service. The rooms are comfortable and cleaned.

  Unico Review

  Having only stayed at Sandals the last 20 years, hurricane Melissa had other plans this year. After Sandals South Coast was hit and destroyed, we decided to try something other than Sandals…landed on Unico 20’87. And it was FANTASTIC! We arrived late in Cancun and then got behind a wreck so didn’t arrive at the resort until 7:30pm. We had heard this is where they try to “sell you the timeshare” and wasn’t looking forward to that part and guess since we were so late, no sales pitch…just a very friendly check-in and dinner reservations made for 30 minutes later. The resort is big and compact all at the same time. The grounds are well taken care of with lots of different greenery. There are 3 pools and 2 member pools. The beach area is small but plenty enough room and you could always find a chair. The beach and pool service was the BEST we have ever had at any resort and some of the friendliest staff at the resort. The drinks were average and usually had to ask for add’l shots, which they happily gave. We ate at all the restaurants and room service except the French, which we weren’t able to get into. ALL the food was on point and there wasn’t ONE thing we didn’t like. Our favorites were 20’87’ and Italian. Our room was cleaned early every day and turn down service with chocolates at night. We were worried about tipping since Sandals is no tipping but tipping wasn’t common and definitely not the norm. We did tip some at the end but it was never assumed and service did not reflect that. Overall we’d give this resort a 9. The only reason it didn’t get a 10 and this is definitely just me but we looked at all the rooms and always want the best beach view, so we selected the panoramic beach view room….but ours was not that view….partial beach view with a side of building would be a better title. We asked to be switched on the 1st morning we were there and was told no beachfront rooms were available until 2 days before we left. We declined and it didn’t ruin our trip. The other thing was on the web, it states in room mini-bar and we had none. Our room came with ‘host” and I texted him a few alcohol requests and was told it would be an upcharge and just to order room service. Again, it didn’t ruin vacation but not as advertised. Our “host” sent us anniversary gift the next day….bottle of champagne (which we don’t drink)….why not send the bottle of wine we asked for on our request? It also asked for what alcohol we wanted in our room on our pre-check in online…..again, neither of these were deal breakers, just not as advertised. Only other suggestions to resort, (1) have dirty towel drops…..there is literally nowhere to take them…most people would return them (2) EVERY employee we saw except bar tenders and beach/pool servers, were on their cell phones or in their hand looking at them. NEVER seen that at any other resort! This caused no personal engagement with staff.

  Perfect birthday trip

  Still buzzing after yet another perfect birthday trip to Unico. We go in early December every year for my birthday and it truly gets better every time. We had our favorite butler team, Israel and Roger, overseeing our stay and they knocked it out of the park. We arrived in our room in my favorite building (building 8) after a very long travel day to find much-appreciated snacks and bubbly and every single detail already arranged, from dinners to cabanas. They even remembered I like cream in my morning Nespresso and had it waiting in the mini fridge. They decorated my room for my birthday, kept us fully appraised of the situation during a minor maintenance issue (loss of water for a while), made sure our hats were painted, changed up reservations as needed and put up with me talking their ears off. They are just the kindest guys and really make the Unico experience for us. The food remains a perennial highlight and this year we finally got to try Avec, the new French restaurant, twice, and were deeply impressed. Highlights included the duck magret and pork belly, as well as the French onion soup and the bread selection with garlic and rosemary butter molded into a shiny seashell. The chef at Mura made us a custom menu that included some truly spectacular udon (and we are particular coming from Seattle) featuring a mix of all the seafood and chicken and the spicy edamame remained as delicious as remembered. The carpaccio at Mi Carisa, another favorite, this year featured a caper emulsion that really elevated the dish. The only disappointment was the pork at 2087, which was unusually dry and tough, but the creamy poblano soup there was a hit. I did three sessions at the spa, including the Blue Agave ritual with Karen, an 80-minute Harmony massage with a scalp massage add-on with Victor, and a four-hands massage with Petra and another therapist who's name unfortunately escapes me. All were lovely but the four-hands massage was INCREDIBLE. I have never had a two-therapist massage before and I don't know if I can ever go back to a solo massage. We spent several days at the HOF/Chairman pool cabanas and then spent our first significant time at the quiet pool (La Escondida) in an ENORMOUS cabana and we really enjoyed the change of pace. We had excellent service daily, particularly from Leonardo. That pool could definitely use more pool concierge service - I think they're stretched a little thin but it was easy to grab extra towels from the towel cabana as needed. We have been coming to Unico since shortly after they opened and it truly is home away from home. See you next year!

  Unico trip

  This was an amazing and awesome trip. Everything was fabulous from the beginning when we arrived until the day we left. Butler Carlos and Eduardo were amazing and assisted us with everything that we needed. If you ever want to go to a resort that treat their guest like kings and queens this is definitely the place to go to. This would definitely be my vacation spot from now on.
